In a style that incorporates the emotionally intensity of expressionism and the psychological complexity of surrealism, Carlos Maneiro’s paintings draw vivid parallels between the depictions of mental and actual landscapes. His work explores the visual boundaries of time and space through images of brooding weather, uncanny landscapes, pensive portraits and dramatic glimpses of the human figure. Maneiro uses natural hues in an unconventional, highly stylized manner to cultivate the poignant and emotive atmosphere for which his work is distinctive: light yellow ochre clouds gather over a barren landscape, spectral figures are backlit by eerie, golden light, and violet-tinged tree branches resemble the human body. In a mingling of human, industrial and organic forms, Maneiro’s “polarized images depict the struggles between societal impulse and the irrational framework of the world.” Born in Caracas, Venezuela, Maneiro studied at the Essy Art Academy in Caracas and the Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
